  • Apple UDID hack: AntiSec steals iPhone, iPad user info from FBI laptop
Device IDs were likely provided by a carrier service, as part of a wider investigation. I don’t think the FBI was conspiring to build a database as much as just using a cross-reference document to affirm some of their own data of devices used in crimes.

This type of sharing between organizations occurs every day, and while it bypasses the need for court orders it speeds up the resolution of cases. I’ve benefited from such relationships in the past. Yet, its embarrassing that the FBI who is structured to protect information systems security in the US could fail to protect their own.
